Steve Faris Steve Faris is the Pre-Fire Planning Captain for the San Bernardino Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. He has served CDF for 25 years in both operations and administrative assignments. For the past three years Steve has performed the duties of pre-fire planner for the California Fire Plan, including: GIS mapping, community stakeholder involvement and wildland fuels risk assessment. Prior to this he held positions in CDF for local government fire protection planning for the cities of Highland and Yucaipa, and San Bernardino County. Steve worked 10 years in command and control at the CDF Area Office in Riverside after eight years of field assignments in the Sonoma, Humboldt and Riverside Units. Steve is a graduate of Humboldt State University with a degree in geography. He is currently very active within CDF in a number of areas including emergency resource management, command and control, community relations, GIS mapping and a variety of other pre-fire planning areas.
