Date: Thursday, September 10, 2009 Make plans to attend a FREE educational workshop on fire preparedness and protection. “Together is Better” is being presented by the California Fire Safe Council along with Farmers Insurance Group. The workshop will be held at the San Jose Holiday Inn on Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner will open the program by discussing the Department of Insurance’s role as a resource for disaster preparedness and mitigation. Homeowners will learn about new fire-resistant building materials and fire-safe landscaping, with native and/or non-invasive plants, from Steve Quarles with the UC Cooperative Extension. A panel of Farmers Insurance Group agents will discuss how to make sure your home is insurable, how to evacuate your home—and what items to take with you—filing an insurance claim after a fire and what you need to know about home inventory. Finally, a panel of local Fire Safe Council representatives and public fire officials will discuss the benefits of forming partnerships to help prevent wildfires in the Bay Area’s at-risk communities.
