About The FSC How to Form... In fall 2009, California Fire Safe Council added a new staff position devoted to helping you start a local Fire Safe Council in your area. As Affiliate Manager for the California Fire Safe Council, Katie Ziemann assists and guides emerging Fire Safe Councils statewide, working closely with each group from its early stages of formation, through its growth and evolution in the community, until the group is ready and able to receive a grant. She provides project ideas, educational materials, connections with experienced Fire Safe Councils, and anything the group might need for its development as a successful Fire Safe Council. Katie is also able to attend local Fire Safe Council meetings to discuss what a Fire Safe Council is and how it can start organizing. By working with Katie and the California Fire Safe Council, you will also be able to use the “Fire Safe Council” name and logo for your own group, connecting you with a growing family of local Fire Safe Councils that shares your dedication to reducing the wildfire threat to California communities. If you are interested in forming a local Fire Safe Council in your area, contact Katie Ziemann, Affiliate Manager, at the California Fire Safe Council at (800) 372-2543 or kziemann@cafiresafecouncil.org. She will help your Fire Safe Council get off to a great start! Starting a Council: Membership Recruitment Your first step is to recruit members. First, identify the potential public and private partners in your community who are at risk of loss from wildfire. Here are some examples of potential members:
